The world’s largest sporting goods retailer, Decathlon, today announced it is rolling out MishiPay’s mobile self-checkout solution across its 81 German stores. The innovative technology is already live in Decathlon Deutschland stores in Berlin (Berlin Hauptbahnhof), Munich (Munich Connect), Cologne (Marsdorf), Schwetzingen and Plochingen, with more locations being added every week.
With Decathlon Deutschland Scan & Go, customers simply scan and pay for items using their smartphone, automatically disabling the RFID security tag to leave them free to exit the store, minimising the need for contact with both humans and checkout devices, and improving levels of customer convenience.
Creating a market-leading frictionless customer experience has been a key objective for Decathlon Deutschland in recent years, and London-based technology company MishiPay were identified as a strategic partner to bring the best of the online shopping experience to its offline stores. The Covid-19 pandemic and need for social distancing measures in stores means customers have also been provided with a convenient payment option that utlilises their own smartphone instead of relying on store hardware.
Decathlon Deutschland’s Leader of Store Digitalisation, Stefan Hertkorn, said: “We are always looking for innovative ways to improve the in-store experience for our customers, and we have found that they are really enjoying using the MishiPay app. What’s more, the solution has clear customer benefits in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic; enabling shoppers to use their own device for the entire shopping journey instead of needing to touch store hardware, and eliminating the need to wait at a checkout.”
Leading the cashless retail revolution
Many retailers around the world have announced their plans to introduce cashless checkouts this year in response to the global pandemic. MishiPay’s innovative mobile self-checkout system offers a solution that can be integrated quickly and seamlessly into the existing payment and security systems of retailers, creating a market-leading customer experience that also frees staff from the checkouts to add real value by helping customers elsewhere on the shop floor and assisting with store operations away from the checkouts.
Decathlon Deutschland is the latest retailer to partner with award-winning British start-up, MishiPay, following the launches with a number of leading European retailers. Founder and CEO of MishiPay, Mustafa Khanwala, said: “We have been delighted to work with Decathlon Deutschland to help them create an in-store shopping experience that is as enjoyable for customers as possible. Decathlon Deutschland already have a great reputation for being customer-centric, and by implementing MishiPay’s technology it reiterates their dedication to improving not only convenience but also the safety of their customers. We are excited to see the project being rolled-out so quickly across Germany.”
