arcel delivery company DPD UK has confirmed it is on track to achieve a 46% reduction in emissions by the end of 2024, compared to its 2020 baseline. This milestone is part of the company’s broader sustainability efforts, which include transitioning a significant portion of its fleet to electric vehicles and using Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) for its transport operations.

As part of Geopost, DPD UK has committed to a Net Zero target by 2040, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The UK branch has confirmed it is progressing in line with the required trajectory to meet this ambitious goal.

In its latest sustainability update, DPD UK highlighted several key achievements. A third of its final mile delivery fleet is now electric, with the addition of 350 Ford eTransit EVs set to be deployed shortly. This will bring the total number of electric vehicles in the fleet to nearly 4,000. Additionally, DPD UK’s new flagship London sortation centre in Bromley-By-Bow, Docklands, has achieved over 90% all-electric final mile deliveries, part of the company’s plan to transition to fully electric operations across London.

Moreover, 95% of DPD UK’s heavy goods vehicle (HGV) fleet is now powered by HVO, which cuts emissions by 83% compared to traditional diesel. These initiatives have positioned DPD UK to achieve its target of reducing emissions by 46% by the end of the year, representing a total reduction of 167,664 tCO2e since 2020.

Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPDgroup UK, commented, “Six years into our sustainability journey and we are more committed than ever to delivering real benefits in terms of decarbonising our business and improving every aspect of our operation. While our fully validated Net Zero target remains 2040, we are working hard to bring through as much change and innovation as possible right now and, as these figures show, we are on track with the trajectory required to meet the group target and are making a real difference already. There will be harder challenges down the line, we are well aware of that, but we will continue to work with the best in the sustainability space and invest in the innovation required to get to where we want to be.”

DPD UK’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its strategic investments and operational changes. The company’s efforts not only aim to reduce its carbon footprint but also to set a precedent in the logistics industry for integrating environmentally friendly practices. The ongoing deployment of electric vehicles and the extensive use of HVO highlight DPD UK’s proactive approach to achieving its environmental goals.
