Uber Eats and Co-op have announced a three-year extension of their quick commerce partnership, reinforcing Co-op’s commitment to fast, convenient, and quality home deliveries across the UK. Since launching in 2022, the partnership has expanded to more than 1,300 Co-op stores, helping the retailer solidify its position as the UK’s leading quick commerce supermarket through its own online platform and partnerships.

Expanding Grocery Delivery with Uber Direct

As part of the extended agreement, Co-op will deepen its collaboration with Uber Direct, Uber’s white-label last-mile delivery service. Initially integrated into Co-op’s online shop, Uber Direct will now also support Peckish, Co-op’s recently launched app designed to help independent grocery retailers offer online shopping and delivery services.

Peckish, which debuted in February, is a first-of-its-kind platform aimed at small, independent, and often family-run grocery stores. The app eliminates common barriers to selling online, such as cost, scale, and resource limitations, enabling local businesses to connect with online shoppers and compete with larger supermarkets. Through Peckish, more consumers can shop locally while high street retailers gain an affordable route into e-commerce.

Strengthening Co-op’s Quick Commerce Model

Co-op’s approach to quick commerce relies on its stores acting as local fulfilment hubs, with products picked in-store and delivered rapidly to customers within the area. The retailer views integrating online demand with local stores as a way to support high street retail while ensuring customers have fast access to groceries and essentials.

Chris Conway, Co-op’s Quick Commerce Director, said:

“Growing our quick commerce channel is a core part of our strategic approach, and I am delighted to extend and deepen our successful partnership with Uber Eats. Innovation is fundamental to our approach, whether extending reach and choice, creating value through member price savings, or, delivering the Peckish app to give independent grocery retailers a voice online. We see consumer appetite for quick, easy and convenient grocery delivery continue to grow and the agreement with Uber Eats marks the start of a new chapter where we will work together to meet the evolving needs of shoppers and, to grow Co-op’s leading q-comm channel.”

Member Price Savings and Expanding Access

The partnership extension also means Co-op will continue offering exclusive member price savings for Uber Eats customers. Co-op was the first UK retailer to introduce member price discounts on a delivery platform, allowing its 6 million member-owners to access savings on nearly 200 grocery items when ordering via Uber Eats.

Alex Troughton, Regional General Manager of Uber Eats Grocery and Retail UK and EMEA, commented:

“Uber Eats and Co-op have built a strong and successful partnership, making grocery shopping more convenient than ever. We’re thrilled to extend this collaboration and introduce Uber Direct, which will allow Co-op to serve even more customers through its own digital channels while continuing to offer delivery via Uber Eats.”

Widening Online Grocery Access

Currently, around 86% of the UK population has access to Co-op groceries online through its own website, shop.coop.co.uk, and partner platforms like Uber Eats. This extended collaboration is expected to further increase availability and convenience, ensuring that fast grocery delivery remains accessible to more households across the country.
