Yodel, the UK independent parcel carrier, has announced plans to open a new depot in Longford, Coventry. The company’s sustained growth has led to the need for additional capacity, and the new facility, covering over 6.5 acres of land and at almost 135,000 sq. ft, could process and deliver up to 50,000 parcels per day at peak. This represents a 28% increase in output from the Leamington Spa depot, making it the largest within the Yodel property estate.

The Coventry location was previously used during a successful short-term period as a satellite site, prior to the company’s busy Christmas season in 2022. Following a 7-year lease obtained for 2023, the new unit began operations at the end of February.

The new depot will provide Yodel with further capacity, ensuring the business can continue to meet growth demands. It features a 99,000 sq. ft warehouse and 6,000 sq. ft of operational office space across two floors. The facility can accommodate up to 175 vans and 275 courier sorts, plus capacity for 35 trailers and units. Yodel’s investment in this new depot removes the need for a local, temporary peak satellite site in future years.

Mike Hancox, Yodel’s Chief Executive Officer, stated: “We are delighted to have the full support of all the stakeholders to open and refurbish Yodel’s new Coventry depot, which will improve best in class facilities for our colleagues and ensure that we can be more dynamic and fit for purpose. It is an exciting time to be moving to a new location and an important step in expanding the business in the Midlands area.”

Yodel’s investment in its property portfolio and site infrastructure demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing and growing the business, providing colleagues with sustainable and good quality working environments. The implementation of the new depot at Coventry offers excellent road network access to surrounding areas, making it easier for suppliers and colleagues to get to and from the site.

Yodel’s continued investment in its operations and infrastructure shows its dedication to meeting the increasing demand for parcel delivery in the UK. The opening of the new depot in Coventry is a positive development for the company and its stakeholders, and signals further growth and expansion in the future.
