Aldi is set to expand its footprint in London by opening nine new stores within the M25 in 2025 as part of a £55 million investment. The openings are part of a larger £650 million UK-wide investment in the year ahead, reflecting the supermarket’s commitment to offering high-quality, affordable groceries to more shoppers across the country.

The retailer has already revealed four of the nine locations where its new stores will be opening: Wimbledon, Fulham Broadway, Caterham, and Orpington. Alongside these openings, Aldi is also investing in upgrades at existing locations within the M25, including an extension to its Colindale store.

A Strategic Push for Accessibility

The latest investment builds on Aldi’s long-term goal of opening 100 new stores in London. As part of this plan, the retailer aims to make its stores more accessible to the capital’s residents, bringing its award-winning value to areas where there is growing demand. With London continuing to be a key focus, Aldi’s expansion is set to create around 3,500 new jobs, supporting local communities and the wider economy.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, explained the motivation behind the capital’s expansion:

“We strongly believe that everyone in Britain should have access to high-quality food at our unbeatable Aldi prices. But we know that there are still thousands of shoppers in the capital that don’t yet have access to an Aldi nearby.

“We don’t think it’s fair that so many people still have to make do with big prices at other supermarkets, which is why London continues to be a real focus for us as we work to bring even more Aldi stores to shoppers across the capital.”

A Focus on Affordability

Aldi’s commitment to affordability has been consistently recognised, with the retailer being named the UK’s cheapest supermarket of 2024 by Which? for the fourth consecutive year. This reputation for value has cemented Aldi’s position as a go-to destination for cost-conscious shoppers. The planned store openings in London will bring Aldi’s unbeatable prices to even more communities, helping residents save on their weekly shop without compromising on quality.

Investment in Existing Stores

In addition to opening new locations, Aldi is investing in upgrades to some of its existing stores. The Colindale location, for example, will undergo a significant extension to accommodate more shoppers and offer an improved shopping experience. These investments reflect Aldi’s broader strategy of continuous improvement, ensuring that both new and existing stores deliver high-quality service and convenience.

Meeting Growing Demand

Aldi’s focus on expanding within the M25 comes as demand for affordable groceries continues to grow in the capital. Rising living costs in London mean that many residents are seeking ways to reduce their household expenses. Aldi’s competitive pricing model offers a solution, bringing the same great value that has earned the supermarket widespread recognition to even more London neighbourhoods.

Looking Ahead

With nine new stores opening in 2025 and plans to open a further 100 locations in London in the coming years, Aldi’s commitment to making high-quality food accessible remains steadfast. The investment will not only create thousands of new jobs but also help more Londoners access the retailer’s award-winning value.
