Eldon Square Ltd and Newcastle City Council have unveiled plans for a groundbreaking Co-operation Agreement and pivotal planning submissions set to enhance Eldon Square’s retail, food, and beverage mix by integrating over 200,000 square feet of new leisure and entertainment spaces. This ambitious initiative aims to enrich the city centre’s offering and engage the local community more deeply.
The enhanced Co-operation Agreement underscores the dynamic partnership between Eldon Square Ltd and Newcastle City Council, showcasing a model for public-private collaboration that seeks to drive rapid development and ensure long-term prosperity. This alliance is poised to make a significant impact on the local community by contributing environmentally and socially, including the creation of up to 500 new job opportunities.

The latest developments include a significant leasing deal with NEXT, which will see the launch of a new 61,000 square foot department store in the former Debenhams space, set to open in November 2024. This move represents a substantial expansion for NEXT within Eldon Square, introducing customers to new home and beauty departments.
Jayne Pushon of NEXT shared her excitement about the upcoming store, anticipating the opportunity to showcase NEXT’s extensive product range to a broader audience in Newcastle.
Following the NEXT announcement, Sephora is set to make a significant entry into Eldon Square, with plans to open a 6,600 square foot store later this year. This addition further signifies Eldon Square’s appeal as a leading retail and leisure destination.
