Canada Life Asset Management, jointly represented by ARC Retail and Colliers International, has signed JD Sports Fashion plc to prominent premises in Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade, as the latest bolstering of the town’s retail and leisure offering.
A new lease has been agreed with the British sports-fashion retailer on a 11,000 sq ft store, with plans to open before Christmas in premises formerly occupied by Top Shop following its closure earlier this year.
JD Sports is the latest major retailer to join Cheltenham’s bustling retail and leisure offer in 2021, as Regent Arcade continues to grow and adapt to meet the evolving needs of today’s customers post-lockdown.
The lease announcement follows hot on the heels of boutique luxury cinema Tivoli, due to open in a 23,000 sq ft premises with five screens including a director’s screening room and cafe bar in late September in time for the long-anticipated release of the 25th James Bond movie No Time To Die. Fellow sports outlet Decathlon has also taken a 20,000 sq ft premises and is expected to open in late November.
James Air, Senior Group Acquisitions Manager at JD Sports Fashion plc, comments:
“We are pleased to be opening a new JD store within the heart of Cheltenham town centre, further developing our presence in the South West. The new store will benefit from our latest high level store environment, providing a full range of brands from within the JD stable, including several exclusives.”
Richard Nichol, Senior Asset Manager at Canada Life Asset Management, adds: “JD Sports’ arrival in Cheltenham is an important addition to the town’s established retail scene. As more and more consumers return to town centres and look to enjoy the physical shopping experience once again, the addition of JD Sports will further enhance Regent Arcade’s vibrant retail and leisure offering in the run up to the busy festive season.”
