The Galleries Shopping Centre in Washington is set to welcome two new tenants, Loungers, a café/restaurant chain, and Pure Gym, a fitness centre operator. These additions are part of a strategic expansion to enhance the shopping and leisure offerings at the centre.

Slated to occupy spaces in the Marketplace section of the centre, which will close on January 28, both Loungers and Pure Gym have committed to 15-year leases. This move marks a significant step in the evolution of The Galleries, broadening its appeal to a wider audience.

Simon Eatough, Director for Landlord and Tenant at LCP, part of M Core that owns and manages The Galleries, commented on the new leases. He highlighted the importance of these new arrivals in the centre’s ongoing efforts to improve and diversify its retail mix. According to Eatough, the introduction of Loungers and Pure Gym is anticipated to positively impact the local community and enhance the overall shopping experience at The Galleries.

The Galleries has recently seen several new tenants, including B&M, which has taken over the premises previously occupied by Wilko. Other recent additions to the centre include Deichmann and Select. These developments are part of a broader strategy to refresh and modernize the retail offerings at the centre.

Pure Gym is set to take over a substantial 10,812 sq ft space, while Loungers will occupy a 3,919 sq ft area. Additionally, negotiations are underway for JD Sports, a current tenant, to expand its presence in the centre. This potential expansion would involve JD moving into a larger, 10,986 sq ft space adjacent to Loungers. Work on transforming these units is expected to commence in February.

The Galleries has experienced a notable increase in shopper traffic, with record numbers reported in the summer months. August saw over 2.1 million visitors, and October experienced a 16% increase in footfall compared to the previous year, with 1.94 million shoppers.

Anchored by major retailers Asda and Sainsbury’s, The Galleries boasts over 100 retail stores and services. Since its acquisition by LCP in 2021, the centre has welcomed several new tenants, including Trespass, Klass, and One Beyond. The Galleries offers over 535,000 sq ft of retail space, complemented by ample amenities like 2,500 free parking spaces and a dedicated bus station, making it a comprehensive shopping destination in the region.
