Genie Shopping, a leading UK retail price comparison engine, has appointed performance marketing expert Warrick Lambert as its first-ever Chief Executive Officer. Lambert rejoins the company after a 12-year hiatus, stepping in at a time when Genie Shopping is experiencing a remarkable year-on-year revenue growth of 172% in 2023.
The company’s accelerated growth has been propelled by a surge in online shopping and a strategic shift towards a Comparison Shopping Services (CSS) model. This has been further bolstered by high-profile partnerships with tech giant Google, and renowned retailers such as eBay, Currys, and Schuh.
Founded in 2006 under the original name Crowdstorm, Genie Shopping initially operated as a consumer-centric shopping website. However, the landscape changed in 2017 when Google opened its platform to shopping aggregators. Seizing this opportunity, Genie Shopping pivoted to focus on online retail marketing, developing its proprietary “shopping campaign management” technology. This innovative technology optimizes retailer adverts to appear prominently in shopping search results.
Today, Genie Shopping directs over five million customers to various retailer websites each month. This has translated to more than £10 million in monthly sales for its partners, which include notable brands like Dyson, Dell, Lookfantastic, Waterstones, and Mamas & Papas.
Warrick Lambert comes to Genie Shopping from Redu Group, a social media publishing firm where he served as CEO since 2022. Prior to that, he was the Managing Director of gift card provider MBL Solutions. Lambert is no stranger to Genie Shopping’s parent company, Genie Ventures, having previously worked as a business development director before departing in 2011. Now back in the fold, Lambert will lead a team based at the company’s Cambridge headquarters.
Warrick Lambert, CEO at Genie Shopping, commented: “I’m excited to join the Genie Shopping team at a pivotal time in its journey. We’re already driving huge boosts in sales for our clients and with the continuing development of our technologies we’ll see this accelerate into 2024. The growth of the business over the last few years has been phenomenal and with the talented team we have in place we’re on track to become Europe’s leading CSS partner. I’m looking forward to building on Genie Shopping’s reputation with our retailers, networks and agencies.”
Ciaron Dunne, CEO at Genie Ventures, also expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to welcome Warrick back to the Genie family and look forward to benefiting from his leadership and depth of experience in performance marketing. With him in place as CEO, we will look to cement Genie Shopping’s burgeoning reputation as one of Europe’s leading CSS businesses, acquiring new clients and helping to nurture our existing partnerships.”
