Argos has launched its Christmas advertising campaign featuring beloved TV toy characters Connie and Trevor. The campaign aims to highlight the extensive range of top brands and stylish gifts available at Argos this festive season.
The central film of the campaign depicts Connie performing an elaborate dance on a table on Christmas Eve, unable to contain her excitement for the upcoming holiday. Directed by Trevor, who cues her with the phrase “Lights, camera, coffee machine,” Connie makes her entrance in a vibrant pink Christmas jumpsuit. The atmosphere is enhanced by steam from a sleek coffee machine, naturally purchased from Argos.
As Connie dances across the table, she passes by various Argos products that add flair to her performance. These include a Sonos speaker and a Habitat Gold cocktail shaker, both of which complement her sequined jumpsuit. The climax of the film reveals that Trevor, who was supposed to be filming Connie, has actually been recording himself, much to Connie’s chagrin. The film concludes with Connie performing a cartwheel and asking, “please tell me you got that, Trev?”
Laura Boothby, Head of Campaigns at Argos, stated: “There was no better way to show off what you can find at Argos this Christmas than bringing back our loveable and family-friendly characters Connie and Trevor. In a festive-themed adventure, the dynamic duo spotlight just a few of the incredible products our customers can buy this Christmas, and bring them to life in a witty and playful way – igniting the Christmas joy our customers can find at Argos.”
The campaign was developed by The&Partnership, directed by Traktor, and animated by Untold. The characters are voiced by Ruth Bratt of “People Just Do Nothing” and Charlie Cooper of “This Country.” The soundtrack features the disco classic “Le Freak” by Chic, setting the mood for a festive celebration.
Matt Moreland and Chris Clarke, Creative Directors at The&Partnership, commented: “We wanted to pull out all the stops for the latest Argos instalment. It is Christmas after all. So we teamed Connie up with some stylish merch, a world class choreographer, and a remix of one of the best disco tracks of all time. Surely nothing could go wrong?”
The campaign is set to have a broad reach, featuring across various media channels including TV, BVOD, OOH, press, social media, online, radio, and PR in the UK. Argos is also planning to release short-form films specifically for TV, BVOD, and social media, as well as a series of TikTok films featuring Connie and Trevor in new light.
The 30-second TV spot premiered on Wednesday, November 1st at 19:45, and 10-second TV spots will begin airing from November 19th. High-impact Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising is already running across the country.
