bp has announced the launch of its first EV charging and convenience hub at Cromwell Road on the A4 in Hammersmith, London. This marks a significant shift in the company’s approach, with traditional fuel removed from the site and replaced by five ultra-fast bp pulse 300kW chargers, each capable of charging two vehicles simultaneously.

The site features a redesigned convenience store with an upgraded Wild Bean Café and an M&S Food offering, catering specifically to EV drivers and those on the go. The modernised layout and contemporary design create a more open and inviting environment, reflecting evolving customer expectations for food, drink, and convenience options while their vehicles charge.

Richard Bartlett, SVP for bp pulse and mobility & convenience, Europe at bp, highlighted the importance of the launch:
“The launch of our Cromwell Road EV convenience hub is a significant milestone in how we’re evolving to meet the needs of a new generation of EV drivers in the capital and beyond. This new format site is not just about providing fast, reliable charging where drivers need it but also delivering an outstanding retail experience, in a strategic location connecting central London with Heathrow and the west of England.”

The Cromwell Road hub is part of bp’s broader UK mobility and convenience strategy, which includes optimising existing sites by integrating bp pulse EV charging with its fuel and retail services, as well as developing new EV-focused charging hubs. Currently, over 50% of bp’s UK retail customers visit its sites purely to shop, reinforcing the company’s focus on convenience-led retail growth.

Customers at the new hub can shop at M&S Food and enjoy barista-made coffee and fresh food from the Wild Bean Café menu, including sandwiches, salads, burgers, breakfast baps, and wraps.

The Cromwell Road hub adds to bp pulse’s west London charging corridor, now comprising five hubs along the A4 to Heathrow. The network continues to grow, with nearly 3,500 rapid and ultra-fast charge points, including at over 225 bp retail locations.

As bp expands its EV infrastructure, the company will continue testing, adapting, and refining its offer to meet evolving customer needs, ensuring drivers have access to fast, reliable charging and high-quality retail experiences wherever they are on their journey.
