Brookfield Properties has announced that The Streets, a prominent basketball and shoe outlet, and EL&N London, the leading café and lifestyle brand, will be leasing approximately 1,830 sq ft and 1,829 sq ft of space respectively at its landmark redevelopment, Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz.

With stores in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, The Streets is one of Europe’s most exciting sneaker and basketball-focused outlets. Known for its bold store concepts and extensive use of events and social media, The Streets has built a strong community and brand loyalty. This new store will join the NBA Store, which opened its largest European store in Potsdamer Platz last year, further cementing the area as a hub for basketball enthusiasts.

EL&N London is famously renowned for its iconic café and lifestyle brand, established in London in 2017 by Alexandra Miller. Known for its pink interiors and colourful lattes, the brand has grown rapidly, with 35 stores globally in major cities such as Paris, Milan, Dubai, and Kuala Lumpur. The Potsdamer Platz location will be EL&N’s second in Germany and its first in the capital, featuring an external terrace area.

Both The Streets and EL&N are part of Brookfield Properties’ broader strategy to reposition Potsdamer Platz as a prime location for flagship stores of international brands, blending high-quality entertainment and food. Upcoming openings include global toy brand Mattel and British leisure and entertainment chain Lane7, set to open in July.

Since acquiring the estate in 2016, Brookfield Properties has undertaken extensive works to enhance the public realm, including urban greening, public art installations, and improved pedestrian access. The renovations, which concluded in February 2024, have transformed the area into a vibrant pedestrianised avenue with a variety of bars, cafes, and retailers.

Brookfield Properties has invested over €200 million in renovating the 270,000 sq m estate, focusing on the area formerly known as Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, now rebranded as The Playce. Construction began in January 2020 and was completed in September 2022. The Playce has since welcomed a variety of high-profile venues, including the NBA Store, Peek & Cloppenburg’s largest sustainable fashion department store in Europe, Germany’s biggest arcade game centre by Gamestate, The Alchemist’s first venue outside the UK, and the largest food hall in Germany by Manifesto Market.

The estate also features 46,000 sq m of retail space, 130,000 sq m of office space, a five-star hotel, Berlin’s largest casino, and world-class cinemas and theatres.

Roger Goyk, Director of Retail at Brookfield Properties, said: “Since acquiring this iconic Berlin destination, we’ve aimed to curate a unique retail and entertainment district that provides one-off brands and experiences for Berliners and visitors. We’re delighted that some of the most innovative brands in Europe are recognising the sensitive improvements we’ve made to the area and choosing the estate as a base for expanding into the German and European markets.”

Alexandra Miller, founder of EL&N London, added: “The choice of Potsdamer Platz as the location for our latest café is perfect. The Playce’s dynamic atmosphere and modern architecture provide the ideal backdrop for our concept, which aims to enrich and celebrate life through good food and aesthetics.”

With these strategic leases, Brookfield Properties continues to enhance the appeal of Potsdamer Platz, making it a premier destination for both locals and tourists.
