Selfridges, the renowned British department store, has unveiled its ambitious plan to ensure 45% of transactions come from circular products and services by 2030. This commitment to sustainable retail will be achieved through its Reselfridges ecosystem, which comprises Resale, Rental, Repair, Refill, and Recycle services. To highlight its dedication to sustainability, Selfridges is hosting “Worn Again”, a season of secondhand and circular shopping experiences, from April to August this year.
“Worn Again” offers customers an array of collaborative events, products, and services available in Selfridges’ London, Manchester, and Birmingham stores, as well as online at selfridges.com. The innovative programme aims to extend the life of products and increase the desirability of secondhand and circular goods. Selfridges is demonstrating that sustainable shopping can be an engaging and enjoyable experience.
One of the key features of the season is The Edit by Reselfridges, a fashion and lifestyle destination offering a unique way to shop secondhand. Designed by Liverpool-based architects Mutt, The Edit showcases a curated selection of products chosen by Selfridges buyers and sourced exclusively by Reselfridges’ global network of resellers and archivists. The Edit by Reselfridges is also available in their Birmingham and Manchester stores.
Another highlight is an exclusive Marine Serre atelier concept, which explores the brand’s groundbreaking approach to regeneration. Taking up residence in Selfridges London’s Corner Shop, the pioneering brand has transformed the space into a creative “atelier” experience. The Corner Shop is adorned with vintage furniture upholstered with crescent moons and an array of exclusive Marine Serre pieces from her State of Soul SS23 collection. Additionally, over the month’s residency, The Corner Shop will host a series of workshops dedicated to regenerative design and creation.
Coach, the American luxury fashion company, is also part of “Worn Again” with its new sub-brand, Coachtopia, focused on circular craft. The pop-up in Selfridges’ Concept Store showcases the brand’s vision for the future of fashion and commitment to circularity. The Coachtopia Ergo bags, an iconic 90s silhouette reimagined using recycled materials, are exclusively available in the UK at Selfridges.
Adding to the sustainable shopping experience is the Women for Women International #SheInspiresMe Car Boot Sale, hosted by Alex Eagle. Taking place on 20th May in Selfridges London’s car park, the event will see boots filled with past-season and secondhand designer fashion donated by brands, designers, and fashion and beauty insiders. All money raised will directly support Women for Women International’s work with women living in countries affected by war and conflict.
The “Worn Again” season also includes a Swap Shop series, Made to Order reimagined as Made In Selfridges, an outdoor furniture fair, and a reimagined Stock Market in the Corner Shop, where items can be valued, traded, repaired, or upcycled.
Selfridges Subscription and Rent to Buy services
Permanent additions to Reselfridges include Subscription and Rent to Buy services. The new “Buy Now” feature on Selfridges Rental allows customers to purchase selected rental items, while “Rent to Buy” offers the option to purchase an item being rented if customers decide they would like to keep it for continued use. Furthermore, Reselfridges Rental Subscription, a new bag-focused rental service, enables customers to receive a different designer bag each month.
The “Worn Again” initiative represents a significant step forward in sustainable retail, as Selfridges encourages customers to explore alternative ways of shopping that contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.
