A new Boutique retail concept has been introduced by The Perfume Shop, created in collaboration with rpa:group. This latest evolution in-store design represents a significant departure from the brand’s established aesthetic, aiming to provide a more premium and immersive shopping experience.

Developed jointly by rpa:group’s Design Studio and The Perfume Shop’s retail delivery team, the Boutique format introduces a refined environment that maintains the brand’s core identity while presenting a distinct visual language. The design leverages rich materials and sophisticated finishes to signal a higher-end customer journey.

“With a long-standing relationship with AS Watson, owner of The Perfume Shop, rpa:group was tasked with creating a completely new look and feel for the Boutique environment — one that would deliver a unique tone of voice, standing visually apart from the traditional The Perfume Shop aesthetic, yet complementary in spirit,” the studio stated.

The interiors of the new stores incorporate anodised gold merchandising bays, textured wall surfaces, and marble flooring — design choices that aim to elevate the atmosphere and contribute to a tactile, personalised customer interaction. The overall presentation is intended to reflect a more modern and luxurious positioning for the brand.

The Boutique concept also includes a curated focus on niche perfume labels, expanding the product range beyond what is typically available through The Perfume Shop’s standard outlets. This approach is designed to foster a deeper connection between consumers and the fragrances on offer, and to support storytelling as part of the retail experience.

“From initial concept to final implementation, rpa:group’s Design Studio led the creative direction, design detailing, specification, and design management. The close partnership with The Perfume Shop’s retail delivery team ensured that the design vision was not only inspirational but also operationally sound, and aligned seamlessly with The Perfume Shop’s customer-first ethos. The result is a luxurious, modern setting that speaks directly to discerning fragrance lovers and design-conscious shoppers,” said the team at rpa:group.

The Boutique model has initially launched in two locations — London’s Brent Cross Shopping Centre and Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. These openings represent the starting point of what could become a broader rollout, reflecting a shift towards experiential retail strategies in the fragrance sector.
