British menswear brand Charles Tyrwhitt is expanding its footprint with the opening of its first store in Wales. Set within Cardiff’s St David’s Shopping Centre, the store officially opens on 23 November 2025, marking the company’s 44th UK location and 59th globally.

The 2,676 sq ft gross space (2,020 sq ft trading) is positioned on the ground floor of the Grand Arcade, one of the shopping centre’s highest footfall areas. The new store reflects the brand’s stated aim of “Making it Easy for Men to Dress Well”, with a layout designed to support relaxed browsing and discovery of its formal and casual collections.

Founder Nick Wheeler described the opening as a personal milestone. “My mother was born just down the road in Newport, Gwent. I spent summers there with Granny Lillian on Glasllwch Lane, and also with Granny Jo who had settled in Newport, Pembrokeshire. I guess that only makes me half-Welsh, but since starting my shirt business while at the University at Bristol in 1986 just over the Channel (I used to call it the Cardiff Channel!) I’ve dreamt of having a shop ‘this side’.”

“I have many happy memories of Cardiff, working closely for many years with The King’s Trust to help young people here, and I’m now delighted to welcome you to our very first store in my (nearly) homeland. My mother would be very proud,” Wheeler added.

The Cardiff store introduces several brand-first elements for the region, including Charles Tyrwhitt’s first dedicated appointment space outside of London. Designed to enhance the customer experience, the space offers one-to-one styling advice and fit consultations, complemented by refreshments. The new service aims to deliver a personalised journey tailored to both loyal customers and first-time visitors.

Charles Tyrwhitt’s decision to invest in Cardiff follows a strong existing customer base in the city, offering a physical outlet where local shoppers can engage with the brand directly for the first time. The company views the store as a strategic step in delivering a more holistic experience, combining its online offering with a welcoming physical presence.

The Cardiff launch underscores Charles Tyrwhitt’s continued retail growth strategy, strengthening its national footprint while aligning with consumer demand for expert-led, in-person service in premium shopping locations.
