IKEA has opened a Plan and Order Point in Aberdeen’s Union Square, bringing its planning-led store format to the city centre.
The store opened on Wednesday 14 October with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by its team of 16 co-workers and Jack Middleton, MSP for Aberdeen Central.

IKEA’s Plan and Order Points are dedicated to kitchen, bedroom and living room planning. Customers can book a free appointment with one of the Aberdeen store’s planning specialists or use in-store self-service tools to design their own solutions.
The store features 18 kitchens, ranging from complete solutions to pantry designs, alongside an appliance studio, a home furnishing planning area and 16 PAX wardrobe solutions designed to show how storage can make the most of available space.
Customers can order from the entire IKEA range, with the option of free next-day collection or home delivery. The store also has a collection area for online orders, handles returns of any IKEA purchase and offers a curated range of 600 home furnishing accessories and small furniture items for immediate takeaway.
“It was fantastic to open the doors of our brand-new Plan and Order Point in Aberdeen this morning, and to welcome our first customers inside. Our new store is designed to inspire, offering customers the opportunity to explore our range of kitchen and storage solutions with options available for every household and budget. Now that we’ve launched, we can’t wait to help more Aberdonians design their dream home spaces.”
Kevin Coventry, Market Manager, IKEA
The opening follows the closure on 1 March of IKEA’s previous Aberdeen Order and Collection Point at Altens, as the retailer moved to a planning-led format in the city centre. IKEA describes the move as part of its strategy to bring the brand closer to where people live, work and socialise, an approach that has also included a city-centre store in Brighton’s Churchill Square.
“I am delighted to welcome IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point in the city centre. It is fantastic to see a global brand like IKEA strengthening its presence in Aberdeen, and the new location will hopefully allow more people to access their products while bringing wider benefits to our local economy.”
Douglas Lumsden, MP for Aberdeen South
The Aberdeen store adds to IKEA’s presence in Scotland, complementing its stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, a recently opened Plan and Order Point in Dundee and in-home planning services across the Inverness area.
“It’s great to see IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point opening in Union Square. The investment in Aberdeen, in the new city centre location, is really welcome. Aberdeen is a great place to live, work, and do business, and IKEA’s continued presence really emphasises that.”
Jack Middleton, MSP for Aberdeen Central
The Plan and Order Point at Union Square is open from 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
