Just Eat Takeaway.com has unveiled a new AI-powered Voice Assistant across its iOS and Android apps, designed to make food and retail discovery more intuitive through natural conversation. Launching first in the UK, the technology allows customers to bypass traditional menu navigation and instead speak directly to the app to explore cuisines, restaurants and dishes, as well as retail, pharmacy and beauty offerings, before placing an order.
The launch builds on the company’s existing chat-based assistant and is intended to address what it describes as “choice overload” within its platform. Acting as a personal food concierge, the conversational assistant is designed to streamline decision-making and accelerate the checkout process through tailored recommendations generated via real-time interaction.
Using AI technology, the assistant evaluates user intent based on natural conversation, whether requests are specific or loosely defined. It is capable of processing intent across dozens of languages, enabling the system to deliver relevant and accurate responses regardless of how a query is phrased. Following the UK rollout, a wider international launch is planned for 2026.
The assistant also introduces a blended interaction model, allowing users to move seamlessly between voice and touch commands. This approach is intended to reduce reliance on constant screen interaction and improve accessibility for users with limited mobility or visual impairments.
“We are always innovating and continually focused on leveraging technology to improve the ordering journey for our millions of customers. This custom-built conversational assistant represents a major step forward, making our service more intuitive and accessible.”
“We are harnessing the power of AI to empower everyday convenience across our entire network. From intuitive customer personalisation and partner success to smarter logistics, we are embedding automation into every interaction to deliver a seamless, efficient journey that creates real value for everyone.”
