In celebration of Earth Week, global payments provider and shopping service Klarna has collaborated with Reddit to announce the most popular durable items of 2023, based on the input of subscribers to the online community r/BuyItForLife (BIFL). Established in 2011, the BIFL community has accumulated over 1.4 million subscribers, promoting a mindset of purchasing long-lasting, high-quality products to minimize waste.
Salah Said, Head of Sustainability at Klarna, expressed excitement about the partnership with Reddit and the BIFL community, aiming to inspire the company’s 150 million global consumers to buy longer-lasting products. Klarna used ChatGPT and manual analysis to scan r/BuyItForLife for the most frequently mentioned products in 2022, filtering the results based on positive and neutral sentiment to create The 2023 BIFL List. The list features products from various categories, such as water bottles and boots, with brands like Klean Kanteen and Red Wing.
Yvonne Quinn, Head of International Business Marketing at Reddit, highlighted the importance of the BIFL list, as it’s based on actual user experiences and opinions. Klarna plans to update the BIFL list annually as part of its commitment to helping consumers shop smarter.
