MAPIC, the renowned international gathering of retail, leisure, food, and tech real estate communities, is launching this year’s event with the theme “The Age of Responsible Growth: Committing to a better future.” This theme aims to highlight how the industry can achieve continuous and sustainable growth by implementing measures that reduce environmental impact and prioritize people and the planet.

Scheduled to take place from Tuesday, November 28th to Thursday, November 30th, 2023, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, MAPIC aims to bring together retail, leisure, hospitality, and property players to address the challenges and opportunities posed by recent economic and geopolitical shifts. These events have underscored the industry’s reliance on finite resources, emphasizing the importance of adopting measures to minimize waste and enhance resource efficiency.

MAPIC’s 2023 program aims to offer property players insights into sustainability initiatives that respond to consumers’ search for meaningful experiences and investors’ pursuit of value. In addition to environmental considerations, the event will explore the positive impact retail can have on the social fabric of cities, particularly within mixed-use developments or urban regeneration projects.

Francesco Pupillo, MAPIC Markets Director, expressed excitement about the event’s role in fostering sustainable growth through initiatives like the MAPIC Academy and the Sustainability Lab. Recognizing the finite nature of global resources, Pupillo stressed the importance of responsible growth for long-term success, consumer engagement, and unlocking the full potential of retail real estate assets.

In addition to the existing offerings, MAPIC introduces the MAPIC Academy, a start-up incubator for innovative young retail brands. The academy includes a competition that selects five young retail brands, providing them with development support through MAPIC’s network of experts and partners, financial backing, and the opportunity to open a pop-up store through a property company partnership.

MAPIC will also feature a new Sustainability Lab, providing attendees with the tools and advice necessary to pursue carbon reduction objectives in an increasingly regulated world. ESG experts, certification providers, and suppliers of sustainable technologies will be present to offer valuable guidance.

The event will host the Retail Village, showcasing 30 mid- and small-sized brands with strong development potential, catering to property players seeking to enhance the tenant mix within their retail assets. LeisurUp, dedicated to the leisure industry community, will celebrate its 3rd edition, while The Happetite Forum will focus on the food and beverage industry, exploring F&B concepts transforming retail sites, new business models, and hospitality firms engaged in corporate social responsibility initiatives.

MAPIC 2023 has already confirmed several exhibitors, including IGD, Nhood, CBRE, Pradera, Landsec, VIA Outlets, INGKA, SCC, and SVICOM. The event expects approximately 6,000 participants, 1,800 retailers and DNVBs, and food and leisure players from 75 countries to attend.
