Molton Brown has opened its first standalone Scent Pavilion at Bluewater in Kent, a new store concept that organises the fragrance house’s products around how customers use scent rather than by traditional product category.
The store, on the centre’s Lower Level, opened on 25 September and forms part of Molton Brown‘s ongoing brand and retail transformation. It was created with Household, the experience design agency named Independent Agency of the Year at the Creativepool Annual 2026.
Fragrances are grouped into three connected areas: Cleanse, covering scent for bath and body; Wear, for fragrance worn on the skin; and Live, for scent in the home.
“The opening of our first UK Scent Pavilion marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Molton Brown. It captures our future direction through a distinctive physical experience that translates the feeling, world and lifestyle behind our fragrances, while building on the heritage, craftsmanship and sensory expertise that define our brand. Bluewater is an integral first step in our broader transformation as we elevate Molton Brown’s position, engage new luxury audiences and build long-term growth across international markets.”
Mark Johnson, President, Molton Brown Global
Three rooms for scent
The store is laid out as a series of Studio Apartments based on familiar rooms in the home. Customers move between the Cleanse Bathroom, where bath and body products are presented as part of a daily ritual; the Wear Dressing Room, a more intimate space for exploring personal fragrance, mood and layering; and the Live Living Room, which takes scent beyond the body and into the home.

The interiors draw on Molton Brown’s London heritage and the character of London homes and storefronts, combining warm canvas, sculptural clay and natural timber with colour taken from the brand’s fragrances and seasonal campaigns.

“Our ambition with Molton Brown was to rethink the role fragrance can play in retail. Cleanse, Wear and Live takes scent out of product silos and puts it into the context of people’s lives. The Scent Pavilion gives that idea a physical home: part store, part studio, part sensorial playground, with scent styling at its heart.”
Luke Weston, Executive Strategy Director, Household
A further area, the Scent Archives, houses the wider collection and is designed to switch between everyday retail, activations and events.
Scent styling
The store is staffed by specialist Scent Stylists, who combine fragrance expertise with a personal styling role, helping customers find combinations across Cleanse, Wear and Live to suit their tastes, moods and routines.
At the Clay Counter, customers can have an in-store consultation to create their own Scent Portrait, supported by new service elements including Scent Lookbooks, Scent Portrait Notes and Cleanse, Wear and Live Curation Trays.

A wider rollout
Bluewater is the first standalone store in a wider retail system that Household has developed for Molton Brown. The system uses consistent global brand codes while allowing individual stores to respond to their location, customers and culture, and is designed to scale from shop-in-shop to standalone store and flagship.

Molton Brown, which is owned by Japanese consumer goods group Kao, chose Bluewater, where Next recently opened its largest UK store, for its first UK Scent Pavilion because of its long-standing presence and established customer base at the centre. The store is the first step in a broader rollout of the brand’s new design principles and customer experience across selected standalone and wholesale locations in the UK and internationally.
