Søstrene Grene, the renowned Danish homeware retailer celebrated for its Scandinavian-inspired designs, is set to open a state-of-the-art 45,000 m² distribution centre in Venlo, the Netherlands, by autumn 2025. Developed in partnership with Prologis, the facility will enhance logistics across Europe, improving stock availability and delivery times for Søstrene Grene’s stores and customers, including those in the UK.

The Venlo distribution centre will play a pivotal role in Søstrene Grene’s growth strategy, supporting its rapid UK expansion, which began in 2016. With 24 new UK stores opened this year, bringing the total to 45, the company plans to reach 100 UK stores by 2030. Globally, Søstrene Grene aims to expand from 320 stores to 500 locations by 2027.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is integral to the Venlo project. Designed as a pilot for sustainable construction techniques, the facility will include solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and recycled materials. Its strategic location in a major logistics hub will utilise river and rail transport to significantly reduce emissions, aligning with Søstrene Grene’s target of halving carbon emissions by 2030.

Mikkel Grene, Group CEO and Co-owner, emphasised the project’s importance:
“We are committed to growing responsibly. By prioritising sustainability in the design and operation of our new distribution centre, we are making meaningful progress towards our carbon reduction targets while improving service for our customers.”

A Hub for European Operations

Complementing Søstrene Grene’s existing logistics hub in Aarhus, Denmark, the Venlo centre will strengthen its ability to serve both Nordic and UK markets. This modern facility underscores the company’s mission to balance international growth with a commitment to sustainable logistics and operational excellence.
