Sleep compatibility at the heart of Ikea dating event
IKEA has partnered with dating app Breeze to create this one-of-a-kind dating experience. Breeze’s expert matchmakers will carefully pair couples based on sleep habits and preferences, inspired by IKEA’s Six Sleep Essentials—a formula developed from 80 years of sleep research. Factors such as mattress firmness, temperature preferences, and duvet thickness will be considered to help singles find a partner they can sleep soundly with.
Tania Douglas, commercial activity leader at IKEA, said, “At IKEA, we believe everyone deserves a good night’s sleep – so we’re excited to team up with Breeze to help those looking for love find someone they can sleep soundly with. We’ve used our Six Sleep Essentials to help lucky singles find their sleep soulmate. Regardless of your relationship status, we offer products and services to ensure everyone can rest easy in a world designed to stop you from sleeping.”

How to take part in IKEA’s Valentine’s dating event
Singles interested in participating can register via Breeze by 10th February, sharing their sleep habits and preferences. Breeze’s matchmakers will select nine couples by 11th February, with winners receiving details about their date, including their image, name, age, and compatible sleeping habits. Participants will then have 24 hours to confirm their place for this exclusive event.
On 14th February from 5-8 PM, the selected couples will meet for their first date in bed, enjoying a romantic IKEA meatball dinner in a stylish IKEA roomset. The experience is designed to test compatibility both in the bedroom and in life, giving participants the chance to find their perfect sleep partner.
Breeze co-founder Marsha Goei commented, “Breeze is dedicated to helping people find meaningful connections in real life. We’re excited to partner with IKEA to create a truly special dating experience that celebrates the magic of finding someone who is genuinely compatible.”
The science behind sleep and relationships
The partnership follows research revealing that sleep compatibility plays a crucial role in relationships. Findings show that 8.4 million people in the UK have ended a relationship due to unbearable bed habits, with Gen Z being the most affected group at 25%. Despite this, over 55% of couples report having different sleep habits, and 29% say they sleep better when their partner isn’t in bed.
Duvet hogging was identified as a major issue, with 46% of people citing it as their biggest sleep-related frustration. Other key complaints include disturbed sleep at 31% and partner fidgeting at 29%, highlighting the challenges couples face when sharing a bed.
During the February half-term, IKEA stores will also host family-friendly activities focused on improving sleep quality, based on the Six Sleep Essentials. To explore the events at your local IKEA store, visit the IKEA events page.
