With Black Friday just around the corner, a money-saving website that looks at the best discounts from over 70 UK retailers (www.offeroftheday.co.uk) undertook a study with almost 2,800 British adults on their thoughts and shopping habits for the upcoming biggest discount day of the year – all of whom stated that they will be looking to make a purchase, if the deal is right.

Wanting to get a good deal on Christmas presents (33%), wanting to treat myself without spending too much money (32%) and wanting to get something I’ve had my eye on for a while but couldn’t justify the cost on (20%) were found to be the top reasons that UK consumers will be looking to browse the upcoming Black Friday deals this year.

Of those hoping to get a technology-related bargain, Apple (27%), Samsung (22%) and Microsoft (19%) are the top brands that people are going to be watching out for.

Almost three quarters of those who are hoping to save money on their Christmas shopping this year (73%) admit that they often purchase Christmas gifts in the sales; while Black Friday was the most common, this was closely followed by summer sales and January sales – with 16% confessing to buying items in January for the following festive season.

Asked what level of deals would likely entice them to make a purchase, almost half of shoppers (49%) would be most drawn in by discounts of at least 20%, while 17% admit that it depends on the brand and the product. Just 6% admit that they would be drawn in with a deal that offers a free product with a purchase made.

Rick Harris, Director of www.offeroftheday.co.uk, commented: “It’s been a tough year for millions of those living in the UK and this year it seems harder than ever to get people to part with their hard-earned cash, so it’s going to take some catchy discounts to get shoppers buying this Black Friday. We always advise shoppers to be savvy; if you don’t have the time to shop around and compare prices to ensure that you’re getting a good deal, be sure to check out our website – we have graphs on as many deals as possible to show the current price compared to previous prices. We’ll be checking the deals on offer with over 70 retailers in 15 minutes intervals throughout the day, allowing us to remove expired or out of stock deals, and ensure that the price is as up-to-date as possible.”
