Harvey Norman, a renowned Lifestyle, Technology, and Entertainment retailer, is set to make a significant entry into Merry Hill, taking over a substantial 57,000 square feet space previously occupied by Debenhams. This expansion marks a new chapter for the brand, known for its impressive selection of high-end furniture and home technology products.
At the heart of this new store, customers can expect an array of luxury furniture options, including sofas, dining sets, and outdoor pieces. The store will also feature an extensive collection of homeware products, home appliances, audio-visual technology, and other tech gadgets. Harvey Norman’s global presence spans over 300 stores in eight countries, and its arrival at Merry Hill further cements the destination’s reputation as a hub for internationally acclaimed brands.
Graeme Jones, Director at Sovereign Centros, expressed excitement over this new venture. “Attracting an international retail giant like Harvey Norman to Merry Hill, alongside a UK debut for fitness operator Xtrafit, provides Merry Hill with a comprehensive solution for the former Debenhams, one that no other destination in the country has. Harvey Norman will bring dedicated visits and benefit from our engaged and loyal catchment, and we look forward to introducing its accessible, high-quality offer, within a brand experience completely unique to Merry Hill,” Jones stated.
Echoing the enthusiasm, Katie Page, CEO of Harvey Norman, highlighted the strategic importance of the West Midlands location. “With its exceptional connectivity and a population around the same size as New Zealand – where we have 42 stores – it’s clear that the West Midlands represents a significant growth opportunity for Harvey Norman. We have been in the UK for many years with two stores in Northern Ireland, so we look forward to opening our new Flagship store in Merry Hill later this year,” said Page.
The store is not just a standalone expansion but part of a larger plan that includes German-born fitness operator, Xtrafit. Occupying 40,000 square feet of the first floor, Xtrafit aims to offer premium fitness experiences at an accessible price point, set to open in the summer.
The leasing arrangements for Merry Hill are managed by JLL, Time Retail Partners, and Font Real Estate. Meanwhile, Colliers and Blake & Coates are representing Harvey Norman in this venture.
