Lidl GB is set to open five new stores in a single day this week, reinforcing its position as the UK’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar food retailer.

The supermarket will launch the sites simultaneously on Thursday 19 February, marking a significant step in its ongoing expansion strategy and its continued focus on price-led grocery retail.

The five locations are:

  • Chester, Caldy Valley Road
  • Calne, Oxford Road
  • Dereham, Yaxham Road
  • Havant, Purbrook Way
  • London, Stamford Hill

The expansion supports Lidl’s 31-month run as the UK’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar retailer, and follows its recent announcement of 19 new stores opening within an eight-week period.

“We’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve. With this push, we’re set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market.”

Richard Taylor, Chief Real Estate Officer, Lidl GB

The new stores will also join Lidl’s ‘Feed it Back’ surplus food donation scheme from launch. Delivered in partnership with Neighbourly, the initiative provided 18.5 million meals to 6.8 million people across Great Britain last year, according to the retailer.

Lidl states that the programme forms part of what it terms ‘The Lidl Effect’, under which the impact of store growth extends beyond retail activity into community support.
