IKEA has confirmed the upcoming launch of a new Plan and Order Point in York, its first location in the city. The store will open at Clifton Moor Retail Park at 9.00am on Friday, 29 August, expanding the retailer’s UK footprint.

The new site will serve as a planning hub, providing customers with personalised kitchen and storage design services. Staffed by a 12-person team, including six design specialists, the Plan and Order Point will offer one-to-one appointments as well as a drop-in option for shoppers. Customers will be able to work with IKEA co-workers to design their ideal kitchens, wardrobes, and living room storage solutions.

IKEA Plan and Order Points are smaller-format stores that focus on consultation and planning. At the York location, visitors will find displays of 11 kitchens, 10 PAX wardrobe setups, and a dedicated appliance studio. Alongside the planning offer, a curated range of 100 home accessories will be available to buy and take home immediately.

The store will also function as a local hub for online orders, enabling customers to collect items or return purchases. Orders made through the planning sessions can be delivered to home, the store, or another Click and Collect location.

Conor Doherty, IKEA Market Manager, said:
“We’re excited to bring a touch of Swedish design and smart, affordable home solutions to York. Our Plan and Order Points offer the perfect space for customers to create their ideal kitchen or storage setup. Beyond planning, these locations also make it easier for those living further from our Hull, Leeds, and Sheffield stores to access our full range, whether they’re shopping for a new sofa, bed, or any other IKEA favourite.”

Luke Charters, Member of Parliament for York Outer, added:
“I’m delighted to welcome IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point to York Outer, due to open in August. It’s a fantastic addition that makes home design more accessible for local households and will bring good jobs to York. This investment shows IKEA’s commitment to our city and will support both creativity and convenience for York residents.”

The opening in York is part of IKEA’s wider UK expansion plan. The brand is also preparing to open Plan and Order Points in Dundee, as well as smaller stores in Norwich and Chester, and a new city store in Brighton. These developments follow earlier openings in Hull, Waterford, and Harlow.
