Marks & Spencer has introduced its first dedicated resale platform, enabling customers to buy and sell pre-loved M&S clothing, footwear and accessories through the newly launched M&S x eBay store. The move forms part of the retailer’s ongoing sustainability initiative, Another Life, which underpins its Plan A strategy across its Fashion, Home and Beauty divisions.
The new scheme allows customers to send in M&S-labelled garments, including items previously excluded from in-store clothing recycling schemes, such as shoes, handbags, belts and scarves. Customers can initiate the process either via a short form on the M&S website or by scanning a QR code in stores. Items are then collected by a courier service and handled by Reskinned, specialists in clothing repair, resale and recycling.

For each return that includes at least one M&S item, customers receive a £5 discount code redeemable online at M&S.com against a £35 spend on fashion, home or beauty products. Wearable items are cleaned, restored and listed for sale on eBay, while non-resaleable pieces are either responsibly recycled or repurposed.
The partnership aims to make resale an accessible option for customers and reinforce circular economy practices within the retail sector. By joining forces with eBay, which has a significant user base of fashion-conscious consumers, and Reskinned’s infrastructure, M&S plans to extend the life of its garments while making circular fashion easier to engage with.
Monique Leewenburgh, Director of Sourcing and Technology in Fashion, Home & Beauty at M&S, said: “At M&S, we are committed to supporting customers to do the right thing and playing our part in reducing textile waste. We’re delighted to be partnering with the pre-loved experts at eBay and Reskinned to launch a dedicated resale platform. This not only offers more ways for customers to give items Another Life, but also an opportunity for customers to purchase items they might have missed from previous seasons – which are pre-loved.”
As one of the most searched brands on eBay, M&S brings its established reputation for quality and durability into the resale space. In line with this development, M&S has committed to contributing 15% of profits from the resale initiative to Oxfam, continuing a long-standing relationship with the charity.
Kirsty Keoghan, Senior Director, Europe Fashion at eBay, added: “For nearly three decades, eBay has partnered with fashion brands to help them sell seamlessly at every stage of the inventory lifecycle, while championing the principles of recommerce and the circular economy. M&S is a beloved British institution, known for its enduring quality and style, and a staple in wardrobes across the UK. Welcoming M&S to the eBay marketplace represents an exciting milestone in our mission to make circular fashion more accessible, appealing, and scalable.”
Matt Hanrahan, Co-Founder of Reskinned, said: “At Reskinned our mission is to maximise the lifespan of clothing. We’re making it easy for brands and their customers to rehome unwanted clothes, whether that’s reselling, repairing or if it’s end-of-life recycling it responsibly. We’re determined to create a more sustainable clothing future for us all.”
Mary Creagh, Circular Economy Minister, commented: “Our Plan for Change is focused on cleaning up Britain, ending our throwaway culture and ensuring that the 700,000 odd tonnes of clothes we throw away each year are worn more. Only government and businesses working together can stop fashion costing the earth, which is why I welcome this new initiative from M&S – a great way for consumers to be rewarded for providing a new home for old favourites.”
This launch represents the final piece in M&S’s four-R approach—Rewear, Repair, Recycle and now Resale, consolidated under its Another Life banner, marking a key evolution in the retailer’s commitment to more sustainable fashion practices.
