UK MENSWEAR designer L’Estrange has introduced new compostable packaging to its supply chain as part of its drive for total sustainability in-store and behind the scenes.
L’Estrange has committed to using TIPA’s compostable zipper bags to protect its garments while in transit from its manufacturers in Italy and Portugal to its UK warehouses.

The bags perform like conventional plastic packaging but are fully compostable, leaving no waste. The zipper function allows them to be reused before safe disposal in compost.
L’Estrange has built its brand around doing more with less and has committed to reaching climate positivity by the end of 2020. The compostable bags are one of several sustainability initiatives it champions.
Others include: using only renewable or recycled materials; offering discounts to anyone who sends their clothing to be recycled regardless of the brand; and pioneering a clothing repair programme.

The fashion industry is among the worst offenders for waste. According to the UN, every second one garbage truck full of textiles is sent to landfill or incinerated.
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday behind us and Christmas around the corner, waste is likely to spike. In 2019 an estimated £2.4bn was spent on Christmas clothes that were barely worn.
Consumer habits are changing as awareness grows, and demand is increasing for transparent and truly effective sustainability practices in fashion.
Searches for “sustainable fashion” tripled between 2016 and 2019. Research by Lyst found there has been a 37 percent increase in searches for sustainability-related keywords since the start of 2020.
Will Green, Co-Founder, L’Estrange, said, “We know the fashion industry has a serious waste problem and customers are now demanding something better. We want to do all we can to make a difference.
“Our brand is built around designing with the planet in mind, and it’s important our supply chain reflects this. We are constantly looking to reduce waste, especially plastic packaging. Finding a compostable alternative in TIPA’s zipper bags was exactly what we needed to keep our garments safe as we transport them, without the environmental impact of plastic.”
Daphna Nissenbaum, Co-Founder and CEO, TIPA, said, “We’re proud to be able to offer a waste-free packaging alternative to fashion houses with the same high-performance specifications brands have grown accustomed to from conventional plastic.”
