Quayside has begun work on a £16m leisure-led transformation of its Salford waterside destination, following planning approval earlier this year.
Development is now under way on the first phase of the investment programme at Quayside, which will expand the destination’s leisure space and support its continued repositioning around retail, entertainment and community-focused uses.

The first phase of works is scheduled to complete in summer 2027, with Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl expected to open in autumn 2027.
New Leisure Anchors for the Upper Mall
Hyperdrive Karting will occupy 47,000 sq ft within the remodelled upper mall, bringing an indoor karting concept based around high-performance electric karts and an immersive racing experience.
Hollywood Bowl will occupy a further 33,000 sq ft unit. Additional retail and leisure operators are also expected to be announced ahead of completion of the first phase.
“This marks an important moment for Quayside and brings our plans for a new era of leisure and community-focused retail to life. We’ve seen strong momentum behind the destination over recent years, and this investment builds on that success, creating a significantly enhanced experience for our customers and the wider Salford community. With construction now underway, we’re looking forward to seeing the transformation take shape, ahead of welcoming new experiences including Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl to Quayside in 2027.”

Car Park and Mall Improvements
Alongside the main development programme, Quayside is progressing a second phase of improvements to its car park. The works are intended to improve the arrival experience, accessibility and movement around the destination.
The completed transformation will see the upper mall focused on larger-format leisure uses, while retail will remain concentrated on the lower mall.
The investment follows recent openings at Quayside including Kargo MKT, Brewski’s Big Tray BBQ, Oxygen indoor activity park and TeeClub, which have contributed to the destination’s growing leisure and community-focused offer.
Construction is now under way, with the first phase of the new-look Quayside scheduled to complete in summer 2027.
