Borough Yards, a prominent culinary and cultural neighbourhood in Southwark, has unveiled the addition of five new independent retailers to its community, each dedicated to sustainability, social impact, and exceptional design. These additions are poised to enhance the diverse and vibrant retail environment of Borough Yards, situated on Stonecutters Lane – the latest and concluding phase of the London Bridge transformation project.
The newly announced retailers comprise Sknfed, a brand celebrated for its natural, vegan, and sustainable skincare products; La Lune London, creators of handmade décor with a provenance in Camden Market; Linnet Jewellery, artisans of handmade jewellery with a presence on Etsy and a physical location on Portobello Road; Pop Specs, purveyors of affordable eyewear; and Handmade Stories, an ethical slow fashion label and social enterprise. For many of these brands, Borough Yards marks the location of their first standalone store in the UK.
These latest entrants are set to complement the already robust retail offering at Borough Yards, which caters to the needs of over 3.2 million workers and residents in the vicinity, in addition to the 25 million annual visitors to the area. Existing establishments such as skincare brand Malin + Goetz, artisan chocolatier Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse, and Japanese handicraft knife brand Kitchen Provisions, alongside celebrated bars and restaurants like Bancone, Barrafina, Akara, Parrillan, and Brother Marcus, as well as Everyman Cinema—the first cinema in London Bridge—contribute to the dynamic and engaging atmosphere of the community.
Lily Lin, Managing Director at MARK, the visionary behind Borough Yards, remarked on the significance of the Stonecutters Lane development, “As the concluding piece of the Borough Yards project, Stonecutters Lane introduces an added layer to our leisure, culture, and shopping ensemble. It’s envisioned as a springboard for burgeoning independent and artisan retailers, positioned in an area renowned for creative dynamism, high footfall, and consumer spending.”
Elena Brook-Hart Rodriguez, the visionary behind Handmade Stories, expressed her selection of Borough Yards as the site for their inaugural physical store, “Owing to Borough Yards’ commitment to nurturing a distinct enclave for independent ventures, it stood out as our preferred location. It’s a strategic spot that beautifully merges the paths of tourists and locals.”
Located merely a two-minute stroll from London Bridge station, Borough Yards is a haven for 50 premium shops, eateries, bars, and cultural experiences, housed within beautifully restored Victorian railway arches. This strategic location serves as a conduit connecting the South Bank and Tate Modern to London Bridge.
Stonecutters Lane at Borough Yards is set to open its doors on 11 April. Bruce Gillingham Pollard and CBRE act as commercial leasing agents for MARK, which is also collaborating with Lone Design Club to curate pop-up events and programming.
