MOSCOT has opened its first shop in northern England at 50 King Street in Manchester, extending its UK retail presence beyond London for the first time. The 121 sq m location is the New York eyewear brand’s fifth UK shop and 44th worldwide.

The opening follows more than a decade of trading in London, where MOSCOT operates four shops. Earlier this year, the family-owned business relocated and expanded its Beak Street location in Soho, continuing its investment in the UK market.

Lower East Side Design Influences

Situated on Manchester’s historic King Street, the new shop draws on MOSCOT’s roots in New York’s Lower East Side. The interior incorporates signature tin ceilings, vintage objects, family photographs and historical artefacts, bringing together references to the brand’s five generations of optical expertise.

The design reflects the visual character established across MOSCOT’s international retail estate, using objects and imagery associated with the family business to connect the Manchester location with its New York origins.

“After more than ten years and four Shops in London, we’re proud to take MOSCOT’s next step in the UK with Manchester,”
“We’ve built a strong community of customers across the country, and this opening allows us to better meet them where they are. Manchester’s independent spirit, rich history, and creative energy make King Street an exciting home for our first Shop outside London.”

Eyewear Collections and Optical Services

The Manchester shop stocks MOSCOT’s full optical and sunglasses collections, including MOSCOT Originals and Custom Made Tints™.

Customers have access to opticians and stylists offering guidance on frame selection, fit and lenses. An in-house eye testing facility also allows customers to update their prescriptions and select eyewear during the same visit.

The combination of retail space and optical services follows the brand’s established approach to operating neighbourhood eyewear shops, bringing product selection and professional eye care together within a single location.

Zack Moscot, the brand’s fifth-generation chief design officer, highlighted Manchester’s cultural and industrial heritage as factors behind the choice of location.

“Manchester has the kind of character we’re always drawn to – authentic, individual, and deeply creative,”
“From its legendary music and fashion scenes to its industrial heritage, the city has always done things its own way. That independent spirit feels very MOSCOT, and we’re excited to bring a little downtown New York to King Street.”

A Five-Generation Family Business

MOSCOT’s origins date back to the arrival of Hyman Moscot in New York from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899. He subsequently began selling ready-made spectacles from a pushcart on Orchard Street in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

The business remains family-owned five generations later, with the Manchester opening extending its international network while retaining the historical references and optical services associated with its New York shops.

The new MOSCOT shop is located at 50 King Street, Manchester.
