Charles Tyrwhitt will open its 46th UK store at The Maltings shopping centre in St Albans on Saturday 7 November, bringing the menswear brand to Hertfordshire as it rounds off its 40th anniversary year.

The 1,320 sq ft store at 44 The Maltings will be the second Charles Tyrwhitt shop in the UK to open without a traditional till point. Instead of a fixed checkout, staff will use mobile technology to assist customers and take payment anywhere on the shop floor, so that the conversation continues through to the sale. The approach builds on the mobile point-of-sale system the brand has rolled out in recent stores, including its Buchanan Street store in Glasgow.

Customers visiting on opening day will be offered complimentary drinks, including bubbles and Tyrwhitt Pilsner beer. The first 20 customers to make a purchase will receive a gift, and an in-store golf ball activation will give shoppers the chance to win prizes.

Charles Tyrwhitt was founded in 1986 by Nick Wheeler OBE while he was a student at the University of Bristol, starting out as a mail-order shirt business. It now trades from more than 100 stores in cities including London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Dubai and Mumbai, and the St Albans opening follows the brand’s first store in Wales, at St David’s in Cardiff.

The new store opens on Saturday 7 November at 44 The Maltings, St Albans, AL1 3HL.
