The Metrocentre Partnership has confirmed that Spanish fashion retailer Stradivarius has opened a new store at Metrocentre, marking the brand’s first presence in the North East.

The new unit occupies 10,000 sq ft in the lower Red Mall and joins a portfolio of established international names such as Reiss, Mango, and Zara. Operating in more than 60 countries, Stradivarius offers clothing and accessories aimed at a fashion-conscious audience, aligning with Metrocentre’s existing mix of global retailers. The arrival of another flagship brand from Inditex is viewed as reinforcing Metrocentre’s role as a regional hub for prominent fashion labels.

Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, Asset Managers of Metrocentre, said: “Stradivarius is a great addition to Red Mall, enhancing the line-up by providing a complementary, point of difference to the existing fashion offer. That Metrocentre is the only place in the region you can now find fashion powerhouses Zara and Stradivarius is an indication of the destination’s importance to the North East retail landscape; somewhere that creates unique day-out experiences and an unparalleled tenant mix.”

The opening follows a period of change for the centre, with Metrocentre having undergone a series of developments and tenant changes over the past two years. Stradivarius joins a retail environment that the partnership says is becoming increasingly diverse, with an emphasis on offering both established and emerging international brands.

The Red Mall, where the store is located, has been the focus of several recent retail announcements. Alongside Stradivarius, Urban Outfitters is scheduled to open later in 2025, representing the brand’s first new store opening of the year. According to Metrocentre, the addition of Urban Outfitters will further expand the mall’s appeal to customers seeking contemporary fashion choices.

The centre’s strategy has been to attract high-profile names to maintain its position as a leading retail and leisure destination in the region. With Zara and now Stradivarius operating under one roof, Metrocentre aims to create a point of differentiation for shoppers in the North East, consolidating its reputation for housing exclusive brand combinations within the same location.
