Søstrene Grene is accelerating its UK growth plans, confirming three new store openings in Harrogate, Canary Wharf, and Stirling for summer 2025. The development is part of a wider strategy that will see the Danish lifestyle and homewares retailer launch 60 new stores across Europe next year, with the goal of reaching 100 UK stores by 2027.
The expansion comes at a time when many retailers are contracting in response to changing shopper habits and falling footfall. In contrast, Søstrene Grene is increasing its investment in physical retail. Currently operating more than 330 locations in 17 European countries, the family-run brand sees long-term opportunity in bricks-and-mortar retail formats.

“Customers in the UK have responded incredibly positively to the Søstrene Grene concept,” said Group CEO and co-owner Mikkel Grene. “We continue to see strong footfall, high levels of engagement, and real appetite for new locations – even in areas where other retailers are pulling back. It gives us confidence not only to expand, but to do so in a way that supports and complements local high streets.”
Known for its Scandinavian, design-led approach, Søstrene Grene offers a curated selection of homewares, kitchen items, gifts, stationery, and seasonal ranges. Its stores are built around a maze-like layout that promotes slow browsing and discovery, inspired by the principles of simplicity and hygge.
In support of its European expansion, the retailer is constructing a 45,000-square-metre automated logistics centre in the Netherlands. This facility, part of a £36 million logistics investment programme, is expected to be completed by 2028 and will underpin more efficient supply chain operations as well as sustainability goals.
Alongside infrastructure upgrades, the company is scaling up its e-commerce presence and implementing SAP across its global systems to facilitate international growth. By 2026, its online offering is projected to expand from 15 to 17 countries, with some regions potentially served through webshop-only models.
“We’re making long-term investments because we believe in the continued relevance of physical retail – especially when it delivers a meaningful customer experience and emotional connection,” added Grene. “We see an opportunity to bring something different to the UK high street, at a time when fresh thinking is needed.”
As it evaluates additional European market entries for 2026, Søstrene Grene remains focused on enhancing its physical store network. The brand continues to centre its retail strategy around calm, experience-driven environments designed to resonate with customers seeking moments of pause and exploration.
