Topshop and Topman have returned to physical retail for the first time since being acquired by ASOS, with the launch of a curated in-store residency at Liberty in London. This new chapter in the brands’ evolution is rooted not in large-scale store rollouts, but in targeted, experiential initiatives designed to re-establish physical presence while resonating with contemporary retail expectations.

Located in Liberty’s central atrium and Level 2 shopping space, the residency is a bold juxtaposition of heritage architecture and modern design. The space features industrial styling with visual cues tied to Topshop’s music and youth culture legacy, offering an immersive environment that reflects both brand identity and cultural relevance. The installation serves as more than a pop-up — it is a deliberate, multi-sensory statement on how physical fashion retail can operate in a post-digital context.

This approach follows a broader strategy that includes other recent high-impact activations. Earlier this month, Topshop staged a runway show in Trafalgar Square, a public, open-air event that received extensive coverage from outlets such as 365 Retail. That event, which marked Topshop’s return to live fashion showcases, reflected the brand’s move to reconnect with audiences through tangible, physical experiences.

This in-store residency is part of a considered revival plan. Rather than reopening multiple locations, Topshop and Topman are focusing on high-impact collaborations, such as this partnership with Liberty, to engage both long-standing and new customers in a refreshed format.

In the Liberty installation, visitors are invited to explore curated edits of womenswear and menswear collections, displayed in a space designed for engagement rather than transaction. The retail area is intended to foster discovery and interaction, breaking from traditional high-street layouts and placing greater emphasis on narrative, identity and design language.

Michelle Wilson, Managing Director of Topshop and Topman, commented:
“We’re incredibly proud to see Topshop and Topman return to physical retail in such an iconic setting. Partnering with Liberty is a defining moment for us, marking our return to the forefront of British fashion, and creating the opportunity to reconnect with our customers in a truly inspiring space.”

Lydia King, Liberty’s Buying and Merchandising Director, echoed the sentiment:
“This residency celebrates the city’s creativity and energy, offering our customers something unexpected. Which we love to do… it’s a meeting point of two iconic British names, both with deep roots in London style.”

This latest venture by Topshop and Topman reinforces a wider shift across the fashion sector toward more flexible, storytelling-driven physical spaces. The Liberty residency, located just minutes from the brands’ former Oxford Street flagship, represents both a symbolic and strategic re-entry into high street retail.

It also follows on from Topshop’s renewed investment in brand building. Earlier this year, the label re-launched its standalone website and introduced a new collection fronted by Cara Delevingne, demonstrating a multi-platform resurgence that now includes physical retail as a key component.

The Liberty residency is open now and will run for a limited period, offering an exclusive opportunity to interact with Topshop and Topman in a space designed to reflect the evolution of both the brands and the retail landscape they now inhabit.
