Amazon has confirmed that the minimum starting pay for its frontline operations employees in the UK will increase by 5.9% to £14.30 and by 5.5% to £15.30 per hour, depending on location. This change is effective from 28 September.

This update means annual salaries for these employees will begin at £29,744, with some roles reaching £31,824 depending on the area. The change represents an 80p per hour increase over the past year and a 43% rise since 2022. Tens of thousands of staff across the UK are expected to benefit.

In addition to salary increases, Amazon offers a benefits package from day one. This includes private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals and an employee discount. These benefits, valued at over £700 annually, are complemented by access to the company’s pension plan.

Employees can also access Amazon’s Career Choice programme, which covers 100% of the cost of nationally recognised training courses, up to £3,000 per year. The scheme is open to all, whether the skills developed are used within Amazon or elsewhere. Since launching in the UK in 2014, more than 23,000 employees have participated.

“Our UK frontline employees are essential to our success, which is why we’re proud to increase our minimum starting wage to £29,744 a year,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager. “Beyond this competitive wage, we offer industry-leading benefits from day one and meaningful career development opportunities for all our employees.”

Amazon says it continues to invest in its workplaces, deploying advanced systems to ensure employee wellbeing and safety. The company also announced earlier this year plans to invest £40 billion in the UK over the next three years, creating thousands of new full-time positions.
